Peter Brehens was a German architect and designer who was
strongly influenced by the Arts & Crafts movement. Brehens was painter and designer in the
Jugenstil, or German Art Nouveau, before transitioning to architecture. Behrens obtained a position at the German
General Electric Company in Berlin as architect and designer. Behrens carried the German neoclassicism
throughout his work that would later influence another generation of artists.
Behren’s major works include the Schröder
House, Cuno House and Darmstadt. A well-known piece of Brehens which reveals
his architectural influences and design skill is his Poster for AEG Lightbulbs
from 1901. You can learn more about this piece on the comparison page.
